This is the video I watched to recover from my first viewing of “Requiem for a Dream.”
Here are my overall impressions, since it became a pretty hot topic when I mentioned that I was watching it for the first time last night on Twitter (follow me, please!).
1. Ellen Burstyn did an AMAZING job. Really, everyone in the movie did really well, but I was incredibly impressed with her performance.
2. The makeup was outstanding. As a makeup artist, I am obviously tuned into this, but yeah… They seriously did a great job.
3. The cinematography was very very well-done as well.
4. I feel like this would be a good movie to show adolescents, however maybe a slightly edited version. I have no idea what those lifestyles are like, but I definitely don’t think this was a glamorous portrayal of those involved in drug use! Loved that it showed a couple different types, though (hard to go into detail without giving away the movie).
Overall, I honestly still can’t decide whether or not I liked it. That is usually the sign of a great movie, though. It definitely wasn’t the feel-good movie of 2000, but it was well-done, and I am glad that I saw it, even if I had to watch a video of cute animals before I went to bed! By the way, if you watch that slideshow, feel free to do so on mute. The corny soft rock cover of “My Girl” didn’t really do it for me!
Ok, off for a ten-mile training walk! ;o)
